Enabling Broadcast on Steam

Now, when you are the home of your Steam app, you can follow the steps ahead to enable the broadcasting feature in your Steam app.

  • Click on the Steam button in the top-left of the Steam app.
  • In the drop-down menu, select the Settings option.
  • The settings page will open.
  • On the left of the Settings window, click on Broadcasting.
  • Now go to the Privacy settings on the right.
  • Choose one of the following privacy settings from the drop-down menu.
  • Broadcasting Disabled: If you have selected this option, your broadcasting will not work.
    • Friends can request to watch my games: This option will let your Steam friends send a request to you to watch your broadcast.
    • Friends can watch my games: If you choose this option, your friends will not need your permission. They can directly watch your broadcast.
    • Anyone can watch my games: This is the option for you if you want anyone using the Steam platform to watch your broadcast without requesting your permission.
  • After choosing your preferred option above, come down below to the next section.
  • Video Dimensions will provide you with the options of different resolutions you can stream on your platform. Higher the resolution, more CPU power is needed.
  • On the next option of Maximum Bitrate, you have to select a balance value because if you want to choose a high bitrate value, you will need a high-speed internet connection. The higher the bitrate, the more quality will be there for the viewer.
  • Optimize Encoding gives you two options that are explained below.
  • Best Quality: This option will prioritize the game’s visual quality in the broadcast over the game’s frame rate.
    • Best Performance: This option will prioritize the frame rate of the game you are playing over the visual quality of the stream.
  • Show viewer’s chat in game; this will decide the position of the in-game chat when you are playing the game. It also shows you the number of viewers watching your broadcast.
  • There are some additional options you can choose from. We have explained them below.
  • Record video from all applications on this machine: Views watching your broadcast will see everything you do on your computer. If you minimize your game and start doing something else, the broadcast will show that as it is.
    • Record audio from all applications on this machine: just as the above option, if this is enabled, the viewers can hear every audio that your computer is making from every program opened.
    • Record my microphone: This allows the viewers of the broadcast to hear your voice through the microphone if you are using one.
    • Show upload stats: This shows the upload rate of your internet, which is being used for the broadcasting.

We hope that this guide will tell you everything you need to know about the broadcasting function built in the Steam app on your computer. It may not be the best platform to stream at, but it will be a good start if you start your long journey and take the first step.
